The Epistle of Jude is the twenty-sixth book of the New Testament and the sixty-fifth book of Bible. It is a letter written to Christians by Jude to encourage them to earnestly contend for the faith [1]. It is a short book and letter, consisting of only one chapter and twenty-five verses. Jude focuses on using examples from the past to clarify false doctrine and evil practices, as well as preservation of faith.

Authorship[]

Author and Audience[]

The Epistle was written by Jude, the brother of James and half-brother to Jesus Christ (biological child of Joseph and Mary). As it was customary in Christian epistles, Jude humbly identifies himself as a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James. Jude does not write his letter to a specific audience or church or group of Christians. Jude addresses his letter to all of those that are in the faith of Jesus.[2] Jude also wishes for mercy, peace and love to be found in abundance[3]

Purpose[]

Jude expressed that he originally wanted to write about the Salvation that he shared with all Christians. However, he felt compelled to urge Christians to content for the faith[4], because imposters had slipped in the ranks of Christians[5].

Sources[]

Jude referred to a variety of historical events, not mentioned in the Bible, but about biblical people.
